Rules

THE SWITCH is the league. The Switch is how we play. Two teams of four, two courts, four players on each court, everyone on at once.

Four games first

  • Two courts, 2v2 on each court. Both teams of four play at the same time.
  • Series 1: two pairings, one per court, both games at the same time.
  • Series 2: partners switch within each team. Two more games at the same time.
  • Every game is to 11, win by 2. You must win the last point while serving.
  • A match cannot end 1-1. After four games the score is 4-0, 3-1, or 2-2.
  • The Switch is only played if it is 2-2.

Only if 2-2

The Switch

  • Use the two remaining cross-pairings (the pairings that have not faced each other yet).
  • 1st block is first to 12, side-out. No win by 2. As soon as either side reaches 12, stop, switch sides, and bring in the second block. 12-11 counts. 12-12 and 13+ do not.
  • 2nd block is rally scoring to 21. First to 21 wins unless it is 20-20 or closer in the win-by-2 window. Must win by 2, and must win the last point while serving — same last-point-on-serve rule as the regular games to 11. 21-20 and 21-21 do not count.
  • Team with the most total points after both blocks wins.
  • If tied, the pairing currently on court stays for sudden death: win by 2 and win the point while serving.
  • Each pairing's Switch block score is shared by both partners on SPS and SPA. Regulation PS and PA stay on the four games and do not include Switch.

Standings

  • Win 4-0 or 3-1 = 3 points
  • Win in The Switch = 2 points
  • Lose in The Switch = 1 point
  • Lose 1-3 or 0-4 = 0 points

Home-court advantage

Captain picks

  • Each match has a home team on the schedule. That is home-court advantage.
  • Away lineup is due 48 hours before that match starts. Away picks four players, Series 1 and Series 2 pairings (partners must change), Switch order, and side first.
  • Home waits, then sets Series 1 and Series 2 pairings against the already-submitted away courts and places Switch first/second. Home does not pick away partners or serve. Away always serves first.
  • Series 2 is a partner switch within each team. Same-partner repeats are not allowed.
  • If it is 2-2, The Switch uses leftover cross-pairings on one court: 1st block first to 12 side-out, then 2nd block rally to 21 win by 2 on serve.
  • Missed deadline: the opponent lineup stands. The late team uses its last saved pairings.

Rosters

  • Season roster is four locked players. Combined current DUPR under 17.0. No individual cap.
  • If someone cannot make a match, the captain (or league admin) puts in a substitute for that match only. The sub is not added to the locked four. The seat is labeled SUB so the other team can see who showed up.
  • Captains add players by name and email. The player completes their profile, including a DUPR account link.

Season

6 teams, 6 weeks. 6 matches the same night at the same location. Each match will only need 12 courts.
